Preparing for Bright Start at School
YMCA Preschool is an educational experience intended to give kids skills that will build a foundation for school readiness. Our Pre-K multisensory play-based program includes Get Set For School® curriculum by Handwriting Without Tears, used by many area schools because of its hands-on use allowing your child a smooth transition into kindergarten.
Two Options to Meet Your Family’s Needs
Swimming lessons are included for all full day and half day preschool classes.
Full Day Preschool
Full day preschool classrooms are licensed, full day, year round, school readiness programs. You have the flexibility to drop off and pick up your child anytime between 7:00am – 6:00pm.
Half Day Preschool
Our half day preschool programs are licensed, have morning and afternoon options and run from September – May each year. Classes follow the school calendar and children must be three years old to attend.
Program Highlights
Social Skills
Children learn social and emotional skills while they interact in large and small group activities that engage the brain and body.
Work Time
Play is a child’s work. Through play, teachers assess and document each child’s growth and development. At the end of each school year families are provided a portfolio of the assessments and work samples completed by their child.
Family Time
Families are welcome in our programs at any time! Families are invited to share in many activities within our programs throughout the year including parent-teacher conferences, classroom parties, family meals, etc.
Staying Healthy
The health of your child is important to us. The YMCA utilizes electrostatic disinfection which coats surfaces evenly, envelopes objects and aggressively adheres to surfaces to ensure a more complete cleaning method for stripping dirt, dust and germs from classrooms. This plays an important role in the prevention and control of childcare associated illnesses.
Meal Time
Breakfast, lunch and snacks are included in full-day program tuition. Meals are served “family style” with their peers. Family style meals promote social skills, self help skills and manners.
Out and About
Children experience walking trips and bus trips to different places in and around our community. Trips allow for physical activity, enhanced learning opportunities and team building.
Pool Time
Preschoolers spend time with aquatic staff becoming safe and comfortable around water. Swimming lessons are provided at no cost to full day and half day preschoolers.
Preschoolers learn letter, shape and color recognition in our preschool classrooms. Our curriculum focuses on developing literacy skills, social skills, body awareness and language development. Preschool classrooms maintain a ratio of 1 adult: 10 preschoolers.
Developing the Whole Child
YMCA preschool prioritizes the holistic development of children. They focus not only on academic readiness but also on social, emotional, physical, and creative development. This approach helps children build a strong foundation for future learning and personal growth.
Experienced & Caring Staff
The YMCA employs well-trained and compassionate educators who are dedicated to the well-being and education of young children. These staff members create a warm and supportive atmosphere where children feel comfortable exploring and learning.
Community Engagement
Our Y program emphasizes community involvement and engagement. They encourage parents and families to participate in their child’s education and offer opportunities for families to connect and build a sense of community. This not only benefits the child but also strengthens the bonds within the broader community.
