Community Impact

As the leading nonprofit for youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility, the Y is a positive force in the community. We work side by side with volunteers, community members, and our neighbors to create a safe, healthy and caring environment that will nurture people of all ages and backgrounds.

Our Focus on Community Impact

Since 1948, the YMCA of Rapid City has been committed to strengthening the bonds that tie us together in community and being responsive to critical community needs.

With programs and services focused on empowering young people, improving the health and well-being of all, and inspiring action in and across communities, the Y ensures a brighter future for all.

Jump Start Childcare

YMCA Jump Start is a full-service center for teen parents or parents who are trying to break the cycle of poverty through one of our partner programs. With support from the John T. Vucurevich Foundation, the Y provides a safe, caring, and positive environment for children 6 weeks to 4 years old whose parents are currently enrolled and attending classes through the Rapid City High School, or whose parents are enrolled at One Heart, Uplifting Parents, and Workforce Connections.

Active Older Adult Programming

The YMCA has a dedicated Active Older Adult program which promotes active aging with tailored fitness, social engagement, and wellness activities, enhancing the quality of life for seniors in our community.

Healthy Kids Day

YMCA Healthy Kids Day is an annual family event promoting active lifestyles, nutrition, and community engagement, fostering healthier, happier kids and families through fun activities and education.

The Y For All

Our YMCA offers sponsored memberships for youth, families in need, and members of the military through our Y For All Campaign & Hero Fund. These efforts are more than just raising money, it’s about the life changing impact that the YMCA provides by opening doors to those in need.

Feeding Kids

The YMCA of Rapid City is committed to playing a part in combating food insecurity in our community through the Summer Food Service Program. This program runs Monday-Friday in June, July, and August in the YMCA Courtyard Cafe and at Main Street Square in Downtown Rapid City.

Connecting Seniors

The YMCA of Rapid City is committed to playing a part in combating food insecurity within our senior population. The Y offers year round meals and activities for seniors aged 60+ to ensure they find community and have access to nutritious meals.

Community Education

YMCA Community Education offers essential life skills classes such as CPR, first aid, and babysitting training, empowering individuals to respond confidently and responsibly in emergency situations.
