Childcare

Childcare Overview

The Y believes that character development is essential in all of our programming. Our learning centers promote the four principles of Honesty, Caring, Respect and Responsibility and we help your child incorporate these principles into daily life. Y childcare centers and afterschool sites are licensed by the South Dakota Department of Social Services and meet the highest standards that stress quality and safety. We are dedicated to enhancing the spirit, mind, and body of all in a positive Christian environment through quality programs, services and facilities. Our curriculum, consistent policies, health and safety standards, and positive guidance are what set Y childcare apart.

Early Learning (0-5)

Y early childhood learning is play-based and addresses the specific need of each child based not only on age, but also on the individual pace of a child’s development. At the Y, we strive to challenge and stimulate each child at his/her own development and foster a positive self-image by accepting each child as an individual. We believe the values and skills learned early on are vital building blocks for quality of life and future success.

Afterschool

Our primary goal of the Kidstop afterschool program is to develop learning activities, foster growth, facilitate adventure and fun for children aged Kindergarten – 5th grade. The Y aligns our school-age programming with evidence-based curriculum while remaining flexible to meet the needs of every child. Our program fosters each child’s cognitive, social-emotional, and physical development by sparking an interest in learning through hands-onplay and experiences.

Summer Day Camp

In the summer, day camp provides kids in Kindergarten – 5th grade the opportunity to grow through daily curriculum that offers a wide variety of age-appropriate activities that develop social skills, leadership, self-esteem, and a love of nature.

Teen Outreach

The Y offers a drop-in afterschool site for teens located in Rapid City. The center offers homework help, introduction to business-basics through Y Perspective Program, and a creative outlet via the Youth Institute where teens dive into photography, videography and digital illustration.
