Description:

Excellent opportunity to join a highly reputable, innovative and proficient staff team that passionately pursues excellence in this mission-driven YMCA. This position provides leadership and direction for wellness center programs and activities along with group exercise and sports programs. This includes recruiting, training, supervising, scheduling, implementation, and evaluating high quality staff in multiple locations to provide a friendly, safe, welcoming and supportive environment in which to help people meet sports & wellness goals.

Performance Objectives:

To develop a continually increasing standard of excellence as directed by the COO in accordance with YMCA goals and policies in the following areas:

Wellness Development

  1. Develop, promote, conduct, supervise and evaluate wellness instruction and other innovative wellness programs that will result in positive character development, improved skills, great relationships, strong families and communities, and just plain fun as measured by participant post-program surveys and at least 5% annual growth in participation.
  2. Conduct wellness programs such that at least 90 percent of program participants and/or parents rate the overall quality of the program as good or excellent.
  3. Promote new participants and retaining existing participants in such a way that budget projections are met or exceeded.

 Group Exercise

  1. Develop, promote, conduct, supervise and evaluate group exercise instruction and other innovative programs that will result in positive character development, improved skills, great relationships and just plain fun as measured by participant post-program surveys and at least a 5% annual growth in participation.
  2. Conduct group exercise programs such that at least 90 percent of program participants and parents rate the overall quality of the program as good or excellent.
  3. Promote new participants and retaining existing participants in such a way that budget projections are met or exceeded

Branch Wellness Centers

  1. Recruit, train, supervise, evaluate and recognize Wellness Coordinators at branch wellness centers with the emphasis on achieving key metrics of members feeling a sense of belonging, having personal goals met, being consistently greeted by staff, staff knowing members’ names, having progress checked and exercising in a friendly, clean and well-maintained facility.
  2. Ensure that equipment is maintained with the emphasis on achieving key metrics of members believing that there is enough equipment and the equipment is well-maintained.
  3. Ensure that positive relationships are developed and point of contact leadership are satisfied and regularly renew the agreement.
  4. Provide high quality personal training and group exercise programs as measured by participant and corporate data.
  5. Conduct wellness center activities in such a way that results in at least 5% increased attendance each year
  6. Meet or exceed budgeted income and expense goals.

 Sports Programs

  1. Develop, promote, conduct, supervise and evaluate sports instruction, league play, tournament play and other innovative sports programs with emphasis on quality volunteer recruitment and training, flawless organization and clear communication in support of the Y Sports philosophy of character first, winning second and that will result in positive character development, improved skills, great relationships and just plain fun as measured by participant post-program surveys and at least 5% annual growth in participation.
  2. Conduct sports programs such that at least 90 percent of program participants and parents rate the overall quality of the program as good or excellent
  3. Promote new participants and retaining existing participants in such a way that budget projections are met or exceeded.

Volunteer and Staff Development

  1. Recruit the finest of trainers, coaches and instructors who meet YMCA qualifications to serve as positive role models and leaders of YMCA wellness.
  2. Develop, conduct and ensure participation of training of all wellness and sports volunteers and staff with an emphasis on upholding YMCA standards of excellence.
  3. Conduct supervision of all wellness and sports volunteers and staff such that all understand and successfully achieve their performance objectives.
  4. Conduct formal and informal evaluations of YMCA wellness and sports staff, such that evaluations result in achievement of their performance objectives
  5. Ensure that each YMCA wellness and sports volunteer and staff is recognized either formally or informally at least twice a year or once every season.
  6. Ensure that personnel records for each volunteer and staff person are complete, accurate and up to date

Equipment Maintenance

  1. Ensure the proper maintenance of equipment in such a way that minimizes repairs and/or replacement costs
  2. Ensure that all areas in public view and all storage areas are so neat and clean that it would make mom proud.

Risk Management

  1. Ensure that all wellness programs and facilities are in compliance with applicable local, state, and federal codes.
  2. Ensure that maintenance and use are conducted in such a way that minimizes risk of injury or damage.
  3. Ensure that the entire wellness and sports operation is in compliance with YMCA risk management policies, such that all participants, volunteers and staff are safe.

Fiscal Management

  1. Manage and monitor income in such a way that income meets or exceeds budget
  2. Manage and monitor expenses in such a way that expenses meets or is below budget.
  3. Establish and maintain a secure inventory of supplies that minimizes loss or disappearance.

Requirements:

This person must:

  • Have a four-year degree in wellness or related field or have a minimum of six years of related field experience.
  • Have a history of organizing and leading high quality programs.
  • Have a history of excellence in achieving qualitative and quantitative growth in programs and participants.
  • Have a history of excellence in leading staff and volunteers toward solid program delivery as demonstrated by a high level of loyalty and respect among those this person leads.
  • Be passionate about the YMCA mission and vision and personally advocate and demonstrate the core values of honesty, respect, responsibility and caring.
  • Demonstrate a high degree of knowledge and enthusiasm of health and wellness as evidenced by well-trained volunteer and staff as top-notch trainers, coaches, and instructors, flawlessly organized programs and exceptionally clean and well-maintained facilities.
  • Be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds.
  • Have CPR and First aid certification prior to or within 60 days of hire.
  • Have a valid driver’s license.
